Brown bag seminars cover many issues

Installing Ceiling Fans and Light Fixtures
Speaker: Physical Plant representative
Did you finally buy that ceiling fan for your den, but have no idea how to get it installed properly and safely? This seminar is the one for you. Come learn how to safely do simple electrical jobs without fear of frying yourself or causing a visit by your local fire department. 

The seminar will be held  from  noon to 1 p.m., July 10, room 110, College of Nursing.

Seasonable and Reasonable Family Vacations 
Speaker: Lorijo Simmons of AAA Carolinas Travel
Are you tired of going to amusement parks for your family's vacation?

There are vacation spots for every season that offer attractions and activities that even your children (including your teenager) will enjoy. Learn about seasonal and reasonable family fun vacations.

Master Gardens

It's hot and humid, but it's not too soon to start planning for your rose garden. Learn from a Master Gardener how to have a colorful garden from summer through fall.

Preparing Your Teen for College

You probably never thought this day would come. However, in a few short months your teenager is leaving the nest for college. 

Come and hear what you and your teen can expect when he or she goes to college from noon to 1 p.m., July 19, room 100, Library/Administration Building.

The Empty Nest Syndrome
Speaker: Mary Beth Brock, MHS, OTR/L, occupational therapist, Institute of Psychiatry
“Why do we wish they were gone and then cry when they leave?” Empty Nest Syndrome, or Separation Stress, is a confusing and at times a very disturbing situation which often rocks the “middle aged boat.” 

The discussion will cover what it is, why it is, and what to do about it in the Brown Bag Lunch seminar held from noon to 1 p.m., July 25, room 107, Library/Administration Building.

Too Much? Too Little? Take the guesswork out of makeup. Learn from Lancôme's world-renowned professional makeup artist, James Boyd, and his associates  how to select and apply cosmetics for your skin type, age, hair, and skin tone. 

The makeover will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  and also from 1 to 2:30 p.m. July 26, room 107, Library/Administration Building.

Home Security

Every 10 seconds a burglar breaks into a home, apartment, or condominium. How safe is your residence? 

Find out how to check the security of your home and learn simple and inexpensive ways to improve security from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 15, room 107, Library/Administration Building. 

Relaxation—Sometimes It's Easier Said Than Done

Relaxation is something that we all wish for,  know we should do, and often don't know how to make it happen. 

In this seminar, held from noon to 1 p.m., Aug. 22, room 100, Library/Administration Building, we will discuss what relaxation is, what it does for the body, mind, and spirit, and offer some suggestions on how to get started. 

Quilting
Speaker:  Nora Williams
Have you ever looked at a lovely quilt and thought “How I wish that I could make one!”? Fabric, thread, needles,  scissors, and lots of creativity are all you need to make a masterpiece quilt. 

The class will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Aug. 23, room 100 Library/Administration Building.

Installing Faucets and Other  Plumbing Repairs

Who has not had a leaky faucet before? That “drip, drip, drip” can drive you crazy. Plumbers are so expensive, but what if, you could fix it yourself? 

This seminar, held from noon to 1p.m., Aug. 29, room 100, Library/Administrion Building, is the one for you. You can make your own simple plumbing repairs and save money.
