The “Information Technology Help Desk Tip of the Week”

The “Information Technology Help Desk Tip of the Week”
is a weekly feature in The Catalyst and reflects the most common problems and questions reported to the Help Desk. Watch for new tips every week.

System/Program: OACIS (Open Architecture Clinical Information System)—Clinical Data Repository of patient results, visits, insurance and contact information.

OACIS has a feature called, System Rosters, that will automatically pull a list of patients meeting a certain criteria. A location roster is a type of System Roster which displays a census for an inpatient location or unit. Location rosters work by communicating with Keane (MUSC's inpatient registration program) and pulling all patients which are registered in Keane on said unit. If Keane is down then the communication between the systems is broken, so new admits or discharges will not display on the location roster.

You can still access a patient's results if they do not appear automatically on your location roster due to Keane being down. Simply add the patient to your roster by doing the following: 1) Click Pt. List 2) Type in the MRN (Medical Record Number) of the patient and depress ENTER on the keyboard to bring up the patient's name. 3) Click on the patient's name to select them and click the arrow pointing to the Current Patient List box which will add them to your roster. 4) Click OK and the patient will now be on your roster and you may access their results.
