Web-based instruction offered to MUSC faculty

What you need to know to get your course or instructional unit online! The Office of the Provost is sponsoring a semester long program to give faculty an opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, practice and support in online course development.

The university is committed to excellence in teaching and encourages the use of technology to improve learning. The Provost's Office recognizes that faculty support is needed to develop new skills and have confidence in the ability of our faculty to continually improve. The program has been designed to disperse knowledge across the campus through the involvement of faculty and staff from all colleges. Those participating will be asked to mentor others and stimulate the ongoing development of educational technology innovations.

Classes will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 30 through Dec. 6.  in room 438 Library/Administration Building. All classes will be held on Thursdays.

Laboratory work sessions are included as well as a Web-site for instruction. Faculty for the program are:  Thierry Bacro, Ph.D., associate professor, College of Health Professions and Richard Hernandez, DPH, associate professor, College of Health Professions, both experienced in the use of WebCT and web-based instruction. Supportive faculty include: Mary Mauldin, Ed.D., Judi Wisnewski, MFA, and Valerie West, Ed.D.

Enrollment is limited, so faculty must apply and be accepted. Certain requirements  for participation exist. The application deadline is July 18. An effort will be made to include faculty from across the campus. Notification of acceptance will be given by July 31.

The application form and information can be found at <http://www2.edserv.musc.edu/application/information.htm>.
