Watch CNN

Watch CNN Sunday night, Aug. 19, at 10 p.m. A special on alcoholism treatment, entitled “Wasted” prominently features MUSC and its participation in the the nationwide COMBINE (Combining Medical and Behavior Intervention) program.

MUSC’s Dr. Ray Anton chairs the national COMBINE Steering Committee. COMBINE is the first national study to evaluate the effectiveness of behavioral treatments alone and in combination with medications.

The program tells the story of Megan, a 26-year-old, who is, in her own words, “waging war” in an attempt to stay sober.  The program follows her through the four-month project COMBINE clinical trial at MUSC after reading about it in The Catalyst.

Megan took her first drink at 13 and by 20 she was drinking heavily, eventually drinking more than 200 alchohoic drinks a week.
