Letter to the editor

The Muslim Students Association of the Medical University of South Carolina joins fellow Americans and the rest of the world in grieving and mourning over the senseless and tragic loss of innocent life brought about by the destruction of the World Trade Center towers, as well as all related acts of violence across the nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and loved ones of those who have been injured and those who have died. We applaud the heroes from all fire departments, police departments and emergency medical services and extend our gratitude to all participating in the ongoing rescue and relief efforts. American Muslims wholly condemn these vicious acts of terrorism.

The Muslims of Charleston, and all those who would seek to uphold the spirit, law, and ethics of the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), are distressed at this appalling display of disregard for human life, and denounce such acts as blatantly barbarous and profoundly against the inviolable sanctity that Islam places on all life.

We, at MUSC, have encouraged our members to participate in rescue efforts in any way possible including donation of blood and offering of medical services to those injured in this horrible tragedy. A special prayer was held last Friday for the victims and families of Tuesday's events.
