UPS protects your data

by Walter Stanley
Engineering and Facilities
In computer terms, UPS is not a package delivery company. It stands for uninterrupted power supply, a device that provides a steady supply of electricity to a computer in case of power surges and outages.

Even a blink in the flow of electricity to a computer can cause it to “crash.”

Computer operators who have one of these marvels should know that it is up to them to perform monthly maintenance. Here’s how:
Have the computer on with all programs closed. Unplug it from the wall. And see if it continues to operate. If it fails in a short period of time, have it replaced. If it stays on, the device is set for another month of operation.

Those without these UPS marvels should consider purchasing one to avoid losing their work to computer heaven. Installation is simple. Just plug the computer into the backup plugs, and plug the UPS into the wall outlet. Perform the test, and it's good to go.
