MUSC honored with 2001 Consumer Choice Award

The National Research Corporation has named MUSC as among the 122 hospitals nationally that have been honored with its 2001 Consumer Choice Award.

The MUSC Medical Center is the only institution in the Charleston market listed. This is the fourth year in a row that the medical center has been recognized. The listing appeared in Modern Healthcare Magazine on Sept. 24.

National Research Corporation (NRC) said that the  winners are the hospitals that consumers choose as having the highest quality and image in 106 markets throughout the U.S. This is the sixth year NRC has awarded hospitals whose consumers have recognized them for providing quality healthcare services.

NRC president and CEO Michael Hays said winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in the company's annual Healthcare Market Guide Study (HCMG) of the 2,500 hospitals named by consumers in the study, the winning 122 rank highest in their Metropolitan Statistical Areas, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. The 2001 HCMG study surveyed more than 150,000 households representing more than 400,000 consumers in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia.

The 2001 Healthcare Market Guide is the nation's largest and most comprehensive study of its kind. No other study used to rate hospitals contains more consumer responses than NRC's study. This study has a margin of error of plus or minus 0.2 percent on a national level. Co-winners are named when scores fall within the statistical margin of error for a given market.

National Research Corporation is a recognized industry leader, with two decades of experience in healthcare specific performance measurement.
