DeGrace places in Advance for Nurses magazine search Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit nurse manager Sharon DeGrace has been named a second place choice in Advance for Nurses magazine’s search for Best Nurse Manager for 2002.   The 56,000-circulation magazine targeting the Carolinas and Georgia was on campus Oct. 7 to present DeGrace with the award and photograph her acceptance along with members of her section “who are as responsible for this award as I am,” DeGrace said.   “Mentor, patient advocate, staff advocate, supporter of change, problem solver describe nurse manager Sharon DeGrace,” reads a summarizing statement at the end of a glowing nomination letter from fellow nurses Cheryl Franklin and Helen Holland.   “During her tenure as a nurse manager at the Medical University of South Carolina, Sharon has shown amazing flexibility and skill in adapting to various managerial roles to accommodate the needs of her staff and to accommodate the needs of the institution.”   The nomination letter explained that typically, at MUSC, nurse managers manage two units. “During a time of hospital need, Sharon accepted and successfully managed a third unit. To Sharon’s credit, she was able to maintain staff satisfaction and moved her staffs forward in the delivery of quality patient care.
