Senate updates annual committee reports

The Faculty Senate reviewed and approved the minutes of the September meetings.
 
Anne Osborne Kilpatrick, DPA, presented the chair’s report, which outlined the major activities and accomplishments of the past year, as well as pending work. She also presented certificates of appreciation to members of the executive committee.
 
Election of new officers:  Francine Margolius, Ed.D., outgoing vice chair and chair of the Governance Committee, facilitated the election of the slate of officers.   The new officers are secretary, Katherine Chessman (College of Pharmacy), vice chair, Michael Zile (College of Medicine, Clinical Services), and chair, Anne Osborne Kilpatrick (College of Health Professions). Other executive committee members are Carlos Salinas (College of Dental Medicine), Tara Hulsey (College of Nursing) and Philippe Arnaud (College of Medicine, Basic Sciences) and Mary Mauldin (Library and Informatics).

Standing Committee Annual Reports 

  • Faculty Affairs: Subbi Mathur, Ph.D., presented the report of the Faculty Affairs Committee.
  • Governance Committee: Margolius reported on the activities of the committee, and recommended that someone be charged with ongoing maintenance of the handbook, to be in charge of updating the handbook on an ongoing basis.  
  • Academic Affairs Committee: Arnaud presented his report at the September meeting. 
  • University Affairs Committee: Mauldin, in addition to her committee’s annual report, announced that findings from the faculty survey evaluating information technology needs would be reported at the November meeting.

The drug-free workplace policy and attorney responses will be sent to members, and all comments will be requested to be received within a week. In addition, all comments on the conflict of interest and commitment policy were aggregated, and the chair was designated to work with the associate provost on a policy that might be acceptable to all involved.
 
The next meeting will be held Nov. 5.
