Sinus, Allergy Center named National Center of Excellence

The MUSC Sinus and Allergy Center has been designated as a National Center of Excellence.

MUSC is one of only two institutions in the country to receive the honor from BrainLAB Inc., an international computerized image-guidance company. BrainLAB and several leading equipment manufacturers will donate more than $1 million in sinus instrumentation to MUSC.

“We are excited about the chance to work with Dr. Schlosser, one of the best trained sinus surgeons in the country, in order to develop cutting edge technology and equipment,” said Mike Lobinsky, North American Business Development Manager for BrainLAB. “BrainLAB’s designation of MUSC as a National Center of Excellence places it among the top sinus centers in the U.S.”

The equipment will be used to educate and teach surgeons from around the country to perform surgery with cutting edge technology and instrumentation.

“This will enable MUSC patients to be treated with the latest equipment and software, often before it is available commercially,” said Rodney J. Schlosser M.D., head of the Sinus and Allergy Center.

Schlosser is the only fellowship-trained adult and pediatric sinus surgeon in South Carolina.
