MUSC's Faculty Senate revises Web site homepage

Minutes from the September and October minutes were approved.

Report from the Faculty Senate chair, Anne Osborne Kilpatrick: Kilpatrick reported on the activities of several university level committees.

The President’s Council meets weekly, and the Faculty Senate is represented. Issues are generally presented a week in advance of voting.

Several proposed centers are under review by the President’s Council.

The Provost Search Committee has invited six candidates in for initial interviews, and Senate Executive Committee members have met with them.

The committee will be meeting Dec. 17 to discuss next steps. The chair noted that there are unique features of our academic medical center that distinguish us from comprehensive universities and other health education institutions.

It has been interesting to learn of the governance structures in place at other locations.

The University Strategic Planning Executive Committee also includes Faculty Senate representation.

Progress is being made toward completing the process in the next few months.

Mary Mauldin presented the new format for the Faculty Senate homepage. Plans are to go “live” by Friday, Dec. 13.

Faculty Senate members are asked to inform Mauldin of suggestions for improvement. The URL is http://www.musc.edu/facsen/.

University Affairs Committee results of the University Affairs Committee were reported by Mauldin. She will continue as chair of the committee.

They recommended that the Senate be represented at the Board of Trustees meetings. This was approved by the Senate, and the chair will explore this with the provost and president.

The committee will also develop a plan for ensuring documents reviewed by the Senate are done so as expediently as possible.

In addition, the committee will focus on ways to maintain communication with people who represent the Senate on various university committees.

Additionally, Mauldin reported that the findings of the faculty survey on technology needs will be reported at the January meeting.

All other standing committees and the Gender Equity Committee are scheduled to meet before the end of December.

The next meeting will be held at 7:45 a.m. Jan. 7.
