CON offers new MSN track in Nurse Specialist

The College of Nursing is offering a new track in the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program. The Nurse Specialist track is designed to develop flexible and innovative advanced practice nurses in a selected specialty area.

Graduates will be prepared with a broad base of advanced nursing knowledge and skills that will enhance their clinical leadership and practice abilities in a variety of roles and settings.

The program focuses on processes of care management and coordination, teaching-learning, program development and outcome evaluation, and research/data utilization. Clinical experiences allow for application of theoretical knowledge in the student’s selected specialty area, and are individually arranged.   Students gain leadership abilities in their specialty area through a preceptor relationship that involves faculty in the Nurse Specialist program along with experts in the student’s specialty area.

Graduates of this program will be prepared to assume traditional or new innovative nursing roles based on client needs or health care environment changes. This program includes an option to seek certification as an adult health clinical nurse specialist.
