Deadline to nominate presidential scholars today

MUSC’s Presidential Scholars Program is currently accepting applications for the 2002-2003 academic year.

The program, which was recently featured by the Association of Academic Health Center’s Web site, was created to provide a meaningful interdisciplinary experience to the study of complex social, political and human issues of broad interest to health care professionals.

Graduate Studies student Peko Kauppert, far left, talks to current scholars Courtney Schueler and Sara Wilcox, plus Dr. Valerie West during an information meeting held Feb. 20. A final informational meeting will be Monday, Feb. 25.

This two-semester, extracurricular program will emphasize a variety of learning experiences from meetings and short retreats, participation in a universitywide forum, dialogue between faculty and experts and a dedicated Web site to support the program.  Scholars’ efforts culminate in a formal presentation recognizing Presidential Scholars Day on April 25.

Approximately 36 total students, representing each of the six colleges, will join selected faculty scholars to create the program. Any interested student may nominate her-or himself.
