Responsible Conduct of Research course to begin Feb. 18

A course on the Responsible Conduct of Research will be offered to all postdoctoral fellows and faculty at MUSC. 

The course will meet from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays starting Feb. 18 for six consecutive weeks. It will be held in the Day Room of the Weight Management Center, Institute of Psychiatry, South Building. 

The format for the course will be informal discussions of case scenarios having to do with scientific research ethics. Topics to be discussed include mentor—student—institution relationships, scientific record keeping, data ownership, intellectual property, authorship, plagiarism, peer review and confidentially, scientific misconduct, use of animals in research, use of humans in research, genetic technology, public money—private gain or for-profit science, and whistleblower rights. 

A number of faculty from MUSC participate to help facilitate discussions.
