Randy Trussell, a fiscal technician in the Grants and Contracts Accounting Department, received the Division of Finance and Administration’s Quest for Excellence 2001 Annual Award.

From a pool of quarterly award winners from 2001, the Rewards and Recognitions Selection Committee of the Service Excellence Team (SET) chose Trussell as the first recipient of this honor.

Randy Trussell, center, receives the Division of Finance and Administration’s Quest for Excellence 2001 Annual Award. Applauding Trussell for his award are Dr. John Sutusky, vice president for finance and administration, and Jennifer Pearce, chairperson of the division’s Rewards and Recognitions Selection Committee.

The Quest for Excellence Program is designed to bring recognition to division employees that are instrumental in the delivery of excellence in service to MUSC’s customers.

Trussell has worked for MUSC for the past seven- and-a-half years, beginning as a customer service representative in the Procurement Department, and then as a procurement officer.

In March of 1996, he became a fiscal technician in the Department of Psychiatry. Since August of 1997, he has been in the Department of Grants and Contracts Accounting, as a fiscal technician.

Department Director David Welch nominated Trussell and applauded his customer service efforts…”In all my 36 years working in higher education, I have never been in contact with anyone who provides better customer service than Randy Trussell.”    So many employees, as well as individuals outside of the MUSC community, have praised Trussell for going above and beyond the call of duty, being always cheerful and upbeat, having an extraordinary work ethic, working seemingly endless hours, coming to various departments’ rescues, and having a wealth of knowledge and a “can do” attitude to say the least.

The Grants and Contracts Accounting staff speak very highly of their co-worker. Trussell gets along well with the staff and makes everyone feel important. He is always trying to find ways to improve systems throughout their department, and has even started a Friday breakfast club which co-workers look forward to every week.

“I am proud to work in the Division of Finance and Administration and the Office of Grants and Contracts Accounting. Mr. Welch, Velma Graham, and Mike Bull let us know we are appreciated here in our office and help us feel like part of the big picture here at MUSC.  The feeling of being friends and family here is genuine. Our office deals with lots of good people here at MUSC everyday. Without them, it would be impossible for any of us in Grants and Contracts Accounting to do our jobs,” said Trussell.

Along with this award, Trussell also received a $100 American Express gift certificate.
