Emerald seeks better data extraction, manipulation methods

The OACIS data repository is the core of the MUSC Electronic Medical Record System (Emerald).

Currently, the only ways to transfer some of the data available in Oacis to other programs for analysis and reporting, are either copy-and-paste from the Oacis Clinical Display, or downloading specific patient information via the myOacis tool developed by the Information Technology Lab located at https://www.itlab.musc.edu/myOacis.

The Emerald Project’s Data Mining Development Steering Committee was formed to explore a more robust method for supporting researchers, practitioners, and administrators who need access to a wider spectrum of clinical datasets. One option is the use of the Cognos Inc. tools, designed for data extraction and manipulation.

Take a moment to complete a survey to help the committee better determine the needs of data users.

The survey can be found online at http://www.gcrc.musc.edu/survey/cognos.html.
