Computer Tip of the Week

What can I do if I begin having problems with my mouse?

If you lose your mouse functionality while working on your computer, you should try to save your work [Ctrl + S] and shut the computer down.

You can usually save your work with your keyboard by holding the [Ctrl] button down while pressing [S]. You should first try to shut down your computer by pressing the Windows key (between [Ctrl] and [Alt]) and pressing the “up” arrow key to highlight Shut Down.  Press [Enter]. Press [Enter] again to shut down the computer.

If you are unable to shut the computer down using the Windows key, you can press and hold [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Delete] to open the Close Program dialog box. Press the [Tab] button to select Shut Down and press [Enter].

Once the computer is off, unplug the mouse cable from the back of the hard drive and plug it back in.  Turn on the computer and login. Your mouse should now work.

If your mouse still doesn’t work, call the Help Desk at 792-9700.
