Nurses Week Activities 

May 6 -12
The Many Faces of Nursing

The theme for this year’s Nurses Week is “The Many Faces of Nursing.”   The major emphasis will be on the nurse writing or telling their own story.  These stories will be highlighted in a bound booklet that will be given as a gift during Nurses Week, showcased in a Nurses Week video tape and in the Post and Courier Nurses Week section. 

Nurses Week Events:
Celebrating Nurses Excellence 2002 Nurse of the Year Award Ceremony
When: Monday, May 6, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
*Where: Storm Eye Institute Auditorium *Note location change
Who: Unit winners—family and friends, nurse managers, directors, all hospital staff employees are invited to attend.

Suzanne Gordon Guest Speaker Nationally recognized, award winning journalist and author of several texts about nurses and nursing will speak about her most recent book ”From Silence to Voice: What Nurses Know and Must Communicate to the Public” (Additional funding for this program was provided by the South Carolina Coastal Nurses Association and Gamma Omicron Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society for Nursing MUSC chapter.)
When: Wednesday, May 8, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. 
*Where: Storm Eye Institute Auditorium. Reception immediately following in the lobby from 6:30 - 7 p.m. *Note location change
Who: Any staff nurse if encouraged to attend.

The Blessing of Healing Hands (Presented by The Parish Nurses Program, Pastoral Care Services, Clinical Services and the College of Nursing.)
When: Thursday, May 9, Noon - 12:30 p.m. 
Where: St. Luke’s Chapel
Who: All nurses and health care providers are welcome to attend.

SCONE Palmetto Gold Awards Dinner (Black tie dinner). 
When: Friday, May 10
Where: Columbia, S.C.
Who: Any winner selected by the SCONE review board. Awarded to top 100 nurses in the state.
