Healthcare Workers of the Year honored

Ambulatory Care Services held its annual Healthcare Workers of the Year reception on May 15.  Each year, staff, physicians, and management are asked to nominate those employees who consistently exemplify the organization’s values of accountability, respect, excellence, and adaptability throughout the year. Staff members are nominated in one of four categories:
  • Registered Nurse of the Year
  • Licensed/Certified Healthcare Worker of the Year
  • Healthcare Assistant of the Year
  • Administrative Support Staff of the Year.


All 20 nominees were recognized at the reception held in the Performance Improvement and Staff Development Conference room, Rutledge Tower.  Each nominee received a certificate and a corsage. 

This year’s recipients are:
RN of the Year—Cheri McElwee, R.N., clinical care coordinator, Rheumatology

Licensed/Certified Healthcare Worker of the Year—Kathy Hood, anaplastologist, Maxillofacial Prosthodontics Clinic

Healthcare Assistant of the Year— Gwendolyn Frazier, PCT,  Adult Primary Care

Administrative Support Staff of the Year—Tracy Halvelka, regional registration representative, Regional Registration

Dave Neff, administrator for Ambulatory Care Services, Sherry Gillespie Miller, clinical director, and Brenda Falls, administrative director, read excerpts from the winners’ nomination forms, as they congratulated the recipients. 

Ceri McElwee, R.N., was also selected by MUSC as a co-winner of the hospital’s Registered Nurse of the Year award. 

Each winner was presented with an engraved plaque and was given a $75 “Be My Guest” American Express dining card to be used at the restaurant of her choice.
