Meet...Sandy

Name: Sandy Nelson.

Department: Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

How long at MUSC: 24 years.

Family: Husband, John (everyone calls Igor). Two children—Jason, and Melissa. One grandson, Mark, 16-months-old.

Favorite TV show: Six Feet Under.

Favorite song/music: Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven.

Ingredient you must have in your home/office: Coffee.

Pet peeve: S-L-O-W people.

Hobbies, activities in your free time: Piano, cross-stitch, crochet, guitar,  and rollerblading.

How do you stay fit: Lots of walking.

Your idea of a perfect vacation: A week in the North Carolina mountains with my husband.

If you could trade places with someone for a day, who would you be: I would be Osama Bin Laden. I’d spend 90 percent of the day undermining all Taliban activity, and then I’d spend the remaining time turning myself in to the American authorities.

Most rewarding thing about your job: Working with the best and brightest students and faculty around.

Personality trait you admire in others: Optimism.

Something people don’t know about you: I may drive a car to work, but any other time, you’ll see me on my Harley!

Something you do when no one is watching: Watch Dr. Phil on Oprah.
