CHP professor receives position as reserve general

Donna Barbisch, an Army Reserve nurse and MUSC College of Health Professions adjunct professor, was awarded her second star and a promotion to major general on Jan. 18 at a ceremony at the National Headquarters of the Reserve Officers Association in Washington, D.C. She is the first Army Reserve nurse to be awarded a major general position.

Aside from being the first Army Reserve nurse to serve in a major general position, she is also the first Army Reserve nurse to serve in a non-Army Medical Department major general assignment as the Individual Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs.

Entering the Army in 1967,  Barbisch completed her nursing education in the Army Student Nurse Program. She has a combined 32 years of service in active and Army Reserve duty.
