Health Sciences Foundation names new board members

MUSC Health Sciences Foundation elected three new members to the foundation's board and appointed one of three MUSC Board of Trustees representatives.

John Thompson of Charleston serves as chairman of the Children's Hospital Fund for MUSC and is a former investment banker with Salomon Brothers in New York. 

Brock Rowley of Hilton Head is vice chairman of American Bridge Company, a leader in construction of complex steel structures for high rise buildings, industrial and transportation systems. Rowley is a trustee for the Hilton Head Island Foundation and has contributed to the Lowcountry Heat, Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra and the Self-Arts Center. He established the Rowley Breakthrough Prep Funs in the MUSC College of Nursing.

Gary C. Cooper of Pawley's Island is the president and CEO of Winyah Health Care Group, LLC, and sits on the board of Plantation Federal Bank and the Horry Georgetown Technical College Foundation. 

The new MUSC Board of Trustees representative is James E. Wiseman Jr., DMD, of Prosperity, S.C. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Newberry Federal Savings Bank and chairman of the Newberry Opera House Foundation. He is recipient of the Order of Palmetto, Citizenship Award SC Dental Association and the South Carolina Downtown Development Award.

Officers elected for a one year term, which began Sept. 1, were Chairman Wilbur J. Prezzano Jr., Vice Chairman Burton R. Schools; Treasurer Kenneth M. Evans; and Secretary Thomas P. Anderson. MUSC Board of Trustees member and foundation appointee Melvin Berlinsky gained Emeritus status.
