Charleston area Race for the Cure slated for Oct. 26

Add your footsteps to the race against breast cancer at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 when the ninth annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Charleston Race for the Cure takes to the streets of Daniel Island.

The Co-Ed 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk will start at Etiwan Park and finish at Bishop England High School.

Each year, 75 percent of the net proceeds from the Charleston race are allocated to organizations throughout the lower half of South Carolina funding vital breast cancer research, screening, education and treatment projects. The remaining 25 percent helps fund the Komen Foundation's National Grant Program.

Working through local chapters and Race for the Cure events in 107 cities, the mission of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is “to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment.”

Participants can register online for the 5K and 1-Mile Run/Walk or print out registration forms at http://www.charlestonrace4cure.org. Participants can also call the Race Hotline at 792-9186 to have a form mailed or faxed to them.

Entry fees for the race are $18 for timed runs and $15 for non-timed participants through Oct. 11. After Oct. 11 the fee will be $20. The fee includes a T-shirt.

Registration can be made during packet pick-up, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Daniel Island Medical Center, 900 Island Drive, Daniel Island.
