Responsible Conduct of Research course to be held

A course on the Responsible Conduct of Research is being offered to all postdoctoral fellows and interested faculty at MUSC beginning on Monday, Sept. 23. Participants will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday evenings for six weeks in the auditorium (Room SW 204) of the Wellness Center. There is no cost for the course.

The format for the course will be mostly informal discussions of case scenarios having to do with scientific research ethics. Topics to be discussed include mentor-student-institution relationships, scientific record keeping, data ownership, intellectual property, authorship, plagiarism, peer review and confidentiality, scientific misconduct, use of animals in research, use of humans in research, genetic technology, public money-private gain of for profit science, and whistleblower rights.  A number of faculty from MUSC will participate to facilitate discussions.

It should be noted that in order to maintain research funding, all postdoctoral fellows are required to attend and complete this course. If you have not completed the course, contact William Boggan, Ph.D., via e-mail bogganwo@musc.edu to register and for further information.

If you are a faculty member and would like to help facilitate the discussions, contact Boggan.
