Employees need to be aware of leave balances

Current leave records indicate that many classified employees will exceed the authorized maximum accrued annual leave accumulation on Dec. 31.

In accordance with state statute, annual leave balances for classified employees and eligible research grant employees will be automatically reduced to 360 hours effective Jan. 1. This is the authorized maximum accrued annual leave accumulation that may be carried into a new calendar year.

Annual leave taken by monthly-paid employees during December must bereported on the monthly time summary. Leave for biweekly employees will be reported as usual. Leave taken by biweekly employees through Dec. 27 will be recorded in calendar year 2003. Leave taken on Dec. 28 - 31 by hourly paid employees will not be charged until January.

Careful attention to reporting leave during the holiday season will ensure correct leave balances at the end of the year. For information, call 792-2683.
