Ambulatory Care recognizes award winners

Each quarter, Ambulatory Care Services recognizes outstanding employees who demonstrate the organization’s values of Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Adaptability (AREA).

Staff members who have received an Applause for Caring card during the quarter are automatically eligible for the AREA Award.

Third-quarter 2003 AREA award recipients are: M. Anne Henderson, pharmacy tech, Rutledge Tower Pharmacy; Lee O. Russ, transporter, Rutledge Tower; Sharon L. Hilliard, patient appointment representative, Hollings Cancer Center; and Queen E. Haynes, Family Medicine.

  • Henderson was nominated by an employee for going the extra mile by taking the time and effort to walk from Rutledge Tower to McClennan-Banks to deliver sample medications for a patient.  The patient was then able to have the prescription filled. And it just happened to be on a day this summer when the heat index was 102 degrees.
  • Russ was nominated by two employees and a visitor. His caring act involved changing a flat tire for a patient. Public Safety had been called, but instead of allowing the patient to wait, Russ stepped in and changed the tire himself. Thanks for giving her a helping hand.
  • Hilliard was nominated by 10 patients at Hollings Cancer Center.  In addition to being described as “very warm, friendly, considerate and efficient,” she is also applauded for her efforts in helping solve problems for patients. On numerous occasions, Hilliard has demonstrated her concern by taking the time and effort to assist patients.
  • Haynes was nominated by four patients as well as a fellow employee. She is described as being “very friendly, caring, and efficient.” In addition to bringing a smile to her patients’ faces, she goes “above and beyond” in thinking of her patients’ welfare.

The Ambulatory Care Prize Patrol surprised each of these individuals in his/her practice setting.  Each recipient received an AREA Award badge holder, a framed certificate, a “Be My Guest” dining card in the amount of $50, and a cake to share with his/her coworkers.
