Montgomery appointed VP for finance, admin

Lisa Montgomery has been appointed vice president for finance and administration at MUSC. The appointment was approved Oct. 8 by the MUSC Board of Trustees.

Montgomery, who held the appointment in an interim capacity since the beginning of this year, retains her position as chief financial officer of the Medical University Hospital Authority.

“We are fortunate to have someone of Ms. Montgomery’s caliber to hold both the university’s and medical center’s highest finance administration positions,” said MUSC President Ray Greenberg, M.D., Ph.D. “One of her greatest strengths is her analytical skills. She collects information before making decisions and is careful to sample other opinions in the process.  This, combined with her finance administration background and people skills, makes her our top choice for this position.”

Montgomery has been with the Medical University since 1991 and also served in the capacity of director of patient financial services and hospital controller.

“Ms. Montgomery’s leadership will propel MUSC forward during a period of tremendous expansion,” said MUSC board chairman Donald R. Johnson, M.D.  Charles Schulze, chair of the board’s Finance and Administration Committee added, “The MUSC Board of Trustees has ultimate confidence in her integrity and her ability to oversee multi-million-dollar projects. She is the right person for the job.”

“I am very pleased and honored to serve the university in this new role.  The Medical University is an incredible place to work,” Montgomery said. “We are surrounded by nationally and internationally known researchers and clinicians.  Our staff members are some of the most dedicated and talented individuals with whom I have ever had the pleasure to work. I’m confident that with the outstanding leadership of our president and board of trustees, we will achieve great things in the future.”

Montgomery is a fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and past president of the organization’s South Carolina chapter. A member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Montgomery is recipient of six of the organization’s awards recognizing outstanding membership and service.

She received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from MUSC’s Department of Health Administration and Policy as well as the Women of Influence Award from the Charleston Young Men’s Christian Association.

Montgomery serves on the boards of Tri-County Project Care, the Financial Leadership Council and the South Carolina Education Assistance Authority. She also serves as the 2004 MUSC Trident United Way campaign chair.

A graduate of Presbyterian College, Montgomery holds a master’s degree in Health Administration degree from MUSC’s College of Health Professions.
