Former dietetic intern presents research at national meeting

Nicole Moore, registered dietitian, presented the research she completed while an intern at MUSC at the Food and Nutrition Conference and Exposition in Anaheim, Calif., Oct. 3.

This is the first time a dietetic intern had a research abstract accepted by the American Dietetic Association for presentation as a poster session at a national meeting.

Moore presented “Catheter Related Infections in Peripherally-Inserted Central Catheters in the Home Parenteral Nutrition Patient.” She worked with Mark H. DeLegge, M.D., Greg D. Borak, M.D., and registered dietitian Suzanne Gardner.

Moore graduated from the University of Georgia and completed her dietetic internship at MUSC in May.

Dietetic interns at MUSC have been required to work on a research project for the past three years. They present their projects as poster sessions for program preceptors and write abstracts in the spring.  This is the second year that an intern submitted an abstract to the American Dietetic Association for inclusion as a poster session.

Moore is employed by Sodexho and works in Charleston at Kindred Hospital.
