UMA/Ambulatory Care blood drive events slated for Nov. 11, 12

Two UMA/Ambulatory Care Blood Drive events supporting the South Carolina Blood Drive Challenge will be held on MUSC’s campus Nov. 11 and 12 at different locations.

An American Red Cross bloodmobile will manage blood donations on Nov. 11 at the 30 Bee Street Parking Lot between 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A second bloodmobile collection will occur Nov. 12 at Rutledge Tower. The event is sponsored by UMA and Ambulatory Care. MUSC employees and the public are encouraged to participate and make a difference.

The challenge is part of MUSC President Ray Greeenberg’s, Ph.D., M.D. and Gov. Mark Sanford’s effort to ensure an adequate blood supply throughout the state by supporting the South Carolina Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross.

“We’re glad to offer this blood drive as a final opportunity to allow MUSC employees to continue supporting the gift of life,” said Dave Neff, Ambulatory Care Services administrator and challenge coordinator.

Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood. Less than 5 percent of the eligible population contributes. Currently, the Palmetto state has less than one day’s supply of different blood types.

November’s UMA/Ambulatory Care blood drive caps MUSC’s scheduled events supporting their participation in the South Carolina Blood Drive Challenge.

The first drive was successfully held Oct. 8 at UMA’s Parkshore office building in West Ashley.

Employees can sign up for appointment times at either blood drive location prior to Nov. 12 by calling Nancy at 876-1365, Rutledge Tower, or Angela at 876-1265, 30 Bee Street.
