Nursing scholarship fund honors commitment

At a time of year when people are rejoicing life’s blessings, and giving back to the community around them, the College of Nursing is offering a way to give back to health care, and the profession of nursing.

The Doctors Honoring Nurses Scholarship Fund is a way to honor the commitment, and tireless efforts of nurses this holiday season.

A gift of $100 in a nurse’s name will provide you with a commemorative pin that can be given to the nurse you wish to recognize. The recipient can wear this pin as a tangible acknowledgment of his or her hard work and contribution. A gift of $1,000 to honor the nurses in an office or a specific department will provide them with a wall plaque to be hung in recognition of the great contributions of the nursing profession.

“I saw this as a way to give back to health care, and celebrate the dedication of those I work with on a daily basis,” said John Cusack, M.D., clinical professor of psychiatry, has taken this opportunity and celebrated four nurses he has worked with for several years. “Nursing is hard work and is underappreciated in today’s environ-ment. As a physician I feel that I am blessed to visit patients, but it’s is the nurses that live with them. They are the heart of today’s health care environ-ment.”

All contributions are tax deductible.  Best of all, this fund will be supporting the education of a new generation of nurses.  What better gift can one give this holiday season to those nurses who give so much each day.
