PT students to host annual HOPE run/walk June 5

MUSC's third-year physical therapy students are organizing the annual 5k Beach HOPE Run/Walk for ALS Research. The event, which begins at 7 p.m. June 5 at the Isle of Palms, will raise money for Project ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

ALS is a neuromuscular disorder that affects motor neurons or large nerve cells and their axons that reach from the brain to the spinal cord and muscles throughout the body. Lou Gehrig, the famous baseball player, was diagnosed with ALS (commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease). For information about ALS, visit http://www.projectals.org or call (800) 603-0270.

Entry fee for the HOPE event is $10  (or $15 with a T-shirt) before May 25. After May 25, the fees will increase by $5. Packet pickup will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 5 at Seaside Inn on Ocean Blvd., Isle of Palms.

For race information, e-mail Sara Romansky at romansk@musc.edu or visit http://hoperace.tripod.com/
