On April 23, nurses from the Medical University Hospital Authority  and the MUSC College of Nursing were recognized at the Palmetto Gold Gala, South Carolina’s premier nurse recognition program for the state's top 100 nurses.

MUHA nurses from left are Jean Rhodes, Robin Bissinger, Sheila Scarbrough and Peggy Simmons.

Some of the College of Nursing Palmetto Gold Award recipients from left are: Teresa Kelechi, Susan Benedict(seated); Ann Hollerbach, John Welton, and Julia Ball.

Each year employers from across the state nominate outstanding nurses from their organizations to become one of the 100 nurses recognized for this prestigious award. Peggy Simmons, Robin Bissinger, Jean Rhodes, Sheila Scarbrough, Julia Ball, Susan Benedict, Catherine Francis-Baldesari, Ann Hollerback, Teresa Kelechi, and John Welton were saluted at the formal gala for their excellence in nursing practice and commitment to the profession.

In addition to providing recognition to deserving professionals, proceeds from the gala provide nursing scholarships for students attending state education programs. This year, 21 students received scholarships as a result of generous contributions to the Palmetto Gold Nurse Recognition Program.
