Commencement setup appreciated

by Mike Schultz, Building Engineer Zone 3

Commencement is one of the most important events for the university, and it requires a heavy involvement by the Physical Plant custodial staff.

The logistics of assuring a smooth commencement involve the paint shop, carpenter shop, electrical shop and university maintenance.

However, we rely heavily on another team to give that first impression for commencement, the housekeeping and grounds group. They keep our facilities in a constant state of readiness for any inspection or certification that might come along.

This year the housekeeping and grounds staff did what they do best in the weeks before and following commencement. I appreciate the support from the staff of all Physical Plant groups, especially house keeping and grounds group who have worked so hard to make this event a success.

This year, 6,500 chairs were setup for commencement—approximately 1,500 more than last year.
