Retired PR admin Jerri Moody dies May 22

Jerri Moody, a retired administrative assistant in the Office of Public Relations, died May 22 at her home. She worked with the department from 1986 until her retirement in August 2002.

Prior to joining the MUSC public relations staff, Ms. Moody served as secretary to the director of nursing and the assistant director of nursing at Roper Hospital for eight years. Prior to that she served as coordinator for the Governor’s Regional Office for former Gov. James B. Edwards.

From 1970 to 1971 she served as director of blood recruitment and public relations for the American Red Cross.

Daughter of Eunice Woodbury Wear and the late Benjamin Lewis Wear, Ms. Moody was born and raised on Sullivan’s Island, and was a long-time resident of Mount Pleasant.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by three siblings, Jean Fleming, Jackie Wear and Jimmy Wear; four children, Lara Moody, Joni Merrill, Toni Moody and Donald Scott Moody; and two grandchildren.

A celebration of Ms. Moody’s life will be held at 1 p.m., today, May 28 at Sunrise Presbyterian Church of Sullivan’s Island.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Charleston, 3896 Leeds Ave., North Charleston, S.C., 29405 or Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle St., Sullivan’s Island, S.C., 29482.

"Jerri had a smile and a friendly word for everyone with whom she came into contact. Patients, families and students would roam into our office, looking for help and Jerri would drop everything she was doing to be sure their needs were met.  Frustrated callers who were transferred from department to department would eventually be transferred to Jerri. Her attitude was that the buck stopped at her desk, and she would make sure every caller was helped. Those of us who worked with Jerri are deeply saddened by her passing."
—Ellen Bank, Office of Public Relations

"Jerri was a special person and she will always have a place in my heart. We worked together on numerous occasions and I enjoyed spending time with her. I was upset to hear of her passing and will always remember her fondly."
Idell Sass, Engineering and Facilities

"Jerri was a friendly and efficient worker. Anytime I needed something on behalf of the president's office and Board of Trustees, she would respond quickly and effectively. I had great admiration for her. She was a caring and sensitive lady."
Liz Castle, Retired Administrative Coordinator, MUSC Board of Trustees, Office of the President

"I graduated from Moultrie High School with Jerri. I thought highly of her. She was a nice caring person who was there for her family and others."
Judy Garris, Administrative Assistant, Volunteer Services

"She was a friendly, helpful neighbor to all of us at the legal department. MUSC has lost a dear friend."
Staff of the University Legal Office

"Jerri and Don (her late husband) have been family friends for years. She enjoyed life especially her hobbies of gardening, fishing and hand-made crafts. Emotionally she was a fighter and a tough lady. I will miss her dearly."
John Richardson, Broadcast Maintenance Engineer, Educational Technology Services and Distance Education
