Time to update university directory—Do it now

Find yourself in the MUSC directory. Go to http://www.musc.edu and click on Directory. Or save a step and type http://find.musc.edu. Type your last name, find yourself in the list, and click again.

Is the information correct?

MUSC's a big place, and getting bigger. There's construction everywhere. Offices are moving, some permanently. Others are just pitching a tent until they can settle in a place called home.

There's a good chance you're not who the directory says you are. New location? New job title? Phone number's changed?

Before you look for someone to blame, remember that it's your responsibility to keep your information up to date, and keeping it up-to-date is easy, thanks to  University Communications.

Look to the lower left of your screen and click on Directory Updates. See the line that says “Click here to find your departmental super user?” That super user—most departments have two—is the person who maintains the directory for you. Call or e-mail that person with your changes.

Why do it now?

Because University Communications is about to print a new hard-copy directory in the university print shop,  making it available to departments and offices across campus.

Printed copies of the directory are updated each month and printed on demand with the print month on the cover. But they come with a price, charged to the department. Once a directory is purchased, it's normally used for a long time, said Lori Solado at University Communications.

“Updating the directory in time for the printed version also ensures that the online directory is accurate,” Solado said. “The university directory is an important communication tool for MUSC, but it is only as good as we make it.

“And remember, every line in the directory is important—name, academic degree(s), title(s), e-mail, phone numbers, department name, post office box, room number, and address.”
