MUSC wins Consumer Choice Award

The National Research Corporation named the MUSC Medical Center as a 2005/2006 Consumer Choice Award winner.

The MUSC Medical Center is the only institution in the Charleston market to receive this award, and this is the eighth year in a row that the medical center was recognized.

National Research Corporation identified hospitals which health care consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in 180 markets throughout the U.S.

NRC Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Hays said winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in the company’s annual NRC Healthcare Market Guide study.  The winning facilities rank highest in their Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau.

In the Charleston area, in addition to receiving the overall Consumer Choice Award, the MUSC Medical Center was ranked highest for best overall quality, best doctors, best nurses, best image/reputation, most preferred for all health needs, best community health programs, latest technology and equipment, widest range of services, Web site used most often and highest patient safety.

The MUSC Medical Center was also ranked highest in the Charleston market for the following services:  heart care, cancer treatment, emergency room, pediatric services, weight loss surgery,  hospital inpatient stay, imaging services, maternity/OB, mental health services, neurology, orthopedics treatment/surgery, outpatient testing/X-rays, outpatient/same-day surgery, physical therapy, plastic surgery, senior services, transplants and women’s/GYN services.
