EZproxy allows access to more journals, information resources

During the past two years the MUSC Library has made an effort to make as many information resources, especially journals, available to users wherever
they are located.

Wherever possible, the library negotiates contracts that allow automatic on campus access and easy, consistent off-campus access.

The library also looks out for technology that will make it easier and seamless for users to access these information resources.

Recently the university, at the request of the library, bought and installed a utility/software called EZproxy.

EZproxy is used by many libraries (and small businesses) to extend web-based licensed databases to users located off-campus. Since EZproxy runs on a computer on MUSC’s network, MUSC database vendors see the requests as coming from an IP address on the MUSC network and permits access. A student or employee MUSC Network Account (MNA) is the login and password that allows access to these resources.

The installation of EZproxy  provides access to a number of resources previously unable to provide from off-campus, especially access to more ejournals. Hopefully, EZproxy will make it easier to access the educational, clinical and research information needed.

For problems accessing information resources from off-campus that should be available from off-campus locations, contact the reference department at 792-2372, http://www.library.musc.edu/about_lib/Services/ask_ref.php, or in the case of ejournals, visit http://www.library.musc.edu/fulltext/journals.html.
