Conflict resolution program offered to MUSC employees

Disagreement is a natural part of life.  There will be times when people just don't see eye-to-eye on something. When a difference of opinion creates conflict and disrupts the workplace, action is necessary to resolve the problem.

The University's Mediation/Conflict Resolution Program has proventhrough the years to be an excellent tool for resolving workplace conflict.  The services of the Mediation Program are available to any MUSC employee and may be used to resolve conflicts between managers and employees or between co-workers.

Mediation is a voluntary and confidential negotiation process that allows two or more individuals to work cooperatively to resolve their differences. They are assisted by one of the university's trained mediators whose role is to facilitate open and honest discussion to help participants reach a mutually beneficial resolution to their disagreement.

Mediation is future oriented. It does not dwell on the past, but attempts to create better understanding between the participants and reduce the likelihood of future problems.

Although the Department of Human Resources Management (HRM) administers the program, the role of HRM is only to assign a mediator to facilitate the mediation. All mediators have participated in a comprehensive training program to provide this invaluable service to MUSC employees.
