Former Radiology admin passes away

Following a long battle with head and neck cancer, Suzanne (Susie) Marie Franciscus Hall, former Department of Radiology secretary and administrative coordinator, passed away on March 30. She worked with the department from 1976 to her retirement in 2003.

Daughter of Rodger J. Franciscus and the late Helen Marie Cronin Franciscus, Ms. Hall was born in San Diego, Calif. She was a graduate of Bishop England High School and Trident Technical College.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Beverly G. Hall Sr., a son, Christopher R. Hall; stepson, Gene Hall and two brothers, Gregory and Brian Franciscus.

With her magnetic smile and warming personality, Susie could make the gloomiest of days seem cheerful. Her never-ending battle to stay strong for all of us made me realize that life is so precious and that we should treasure every second of it. She was a great friend to many and a loving wife and mother. She will be missed by us all, but we are comforted by the fact that she is in a heavenly place now with God and the angels at her side.
—Cheryl Harmon, Network Operations Coordinator, UMA Information Systems, Parkshore Centre

When I think of Susie, the thing I remember most was she always had time to listen and support others during their difficult times. Even while she dealt with her own illness, she thought of others first.  Susie lived her faith every day. We miss her!
—Jill Jenkins,Radiology

I first met Susie soon after she married Bev (her husband), but became closer when we were helping to lay the irrigation system on the practice fields and working in the concession stands while our sons went to West Ashley High School. Susie always impressed me as one of the kindest people you would ever want to meet and was always so willing to help in any way she could and always, always with a smile! Her beautiful smile and huge heart will be greatly missed.
—Cindy Shanks, UMA Parkshore Centre

If you looked in the dictionary or even the Bible for the definition of friend, Suzanne Hall would meet all requirements. I have never met anyone as wonderful as her. In August, 1999, she developed cancer of the tonsil. She had previously had uterine cancer six months after her son was born in 1984.

The next six years, she became the strongest person I have ever met. She underwent multiple surgeries, radiation treatments, multiple chemotherapy treatments, and never once had a break during this period.Yet, she was so positive the whole time and showed me and others what life was really about— loving the simplicity of life such as working in the yard, going for a ride in the car, playing cards and games with family or just being with a friend and talking. Even when she had her tongue removed, we managed to still communicate by learning little movements of the hand or head or just looking in each others eyes.

Her impact on people has made such an impression that the love for her never stops. Knowing that others are having a fund raiser for her medical bills just makes me cry. It’s a good cry because I know this is another way all of you are showing your love for her, and believe me, she is watching and having one of her wonderful smiles on her face.
