MUSC named top consumer choice for
9th year in a row
The
National Research Corporation has named the MUSC Medical Center as a
2006-07 Consumer Choice Award winner.
The MUSC Medical Center is the only institution in the Charleston
market to receive this award, and this is the ninth year in a row that
the Medical Center has been recognized.
“I’m extremely pleased that the Medical Center has won this award for
the ninth year in a row,” said Stuart Smith, vice president for
Clinical Operations and executive director of the MUSC Medical Center.
“I think this is an indication that the public is paying attention to
health care issues and recognizes the value of having a major academic
medical center in its community.”
National Research Corporation identified hospitals that health care
consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in 180
markets throughout the United States.
NRC Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Hays said winners are determined
by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected
in the company’s annual NRC Healthcare Market Guide study. The winning
facilities rank highest in their Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs)
as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau.
In the Charleston area, in addition to receiving the overall Consumer
Choice Award, the MUSC Medical Center was ranked highest for best
overall quality, best doctors and nurses, best image/reputation, most
preferred for all health needs, best community health programs, latest
technology and equipment, widest range of services, and Web site used
most often.
The MUSC Medical Center was also ranked highest in the Charleston
market for being the most preferred for heart care, cancer treatment,
pediatric services, weight loss surgery, neurology, orthopaedics
treatment and surgery.
