Information on diabetes available

For more information on diabetes, visit the Wellness Wednesday booth from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Children’s Hospital Lobby.

November is American Diabetes month and to raise awareness the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) will provide the following for employees at Wellness Wednesday on Nov. 15: free medication counseling, diabetes testing, blood pressure checks, and body fat analysis.

SNPhA is an educational and service association of students who are concerned about pharmacy issues, professional development and the lack of minority representation in pharmacy and other health related professions.

The purpose of SNPhA is to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute programs geared toward the improvement of the health, education and social environment of the community. SNPhA develops and coordinates programs in areas directly affecting the minority pharmacy student and health care of minority people. SNPhA further pledges to work with other organizations and public agencies in the pursuit of charitable and educational objectives.

SNPhA offers numerous benefits such as: leadership and organizational skills, communication skills, professional contacts and support group network.

The mission of SNPhA is to meet the challenges of the continuously expanding role of the pharmacist and to direct health care expertise toward improving minority communities. The South Carolina College of Pharmacy-MUSC Chapter of SNPhA attempts to educate the community by focusing on managing and improving the health status of patients through counseling and drug therapy monitoring.
