Faculty senate meeting minutes

To view the senate's unapproved meeting minutes for October, visit  http://www.musc.edu/facsen.

Guest speaker
John Schafer III, M.D., endowed chair and assistant dean of the statewide Center for Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Safety, provided an update on the center. The center is a part of Health Sciences South Carolina, a hospital-university collaboration composed of member institutions across the state and designed to support advanced instructional technology in healthcare. Simulation facilities are under construction at MUSC as well as other member institutions. Simulation provides an opportunity to practice high-risk procedures with minimum risk and cost.

The collection of data from simulation experiences will enable South Carolina to be at the forefront of health care simulation research.
Annual report of senate

Rick Albenesius, DMD, president of the senate, welcomed new senators, thanked the executive committee for its work, and provided the senate's annual report (http://www.musc.edu/facsen).

Election of officers for 2006-07
Senators elected the following officers for the 2006-07 term: Albenesius, president; Walter Limehouse, M.D., vice president; and Mary Mauldin, Ed.D., secretary.

Albenesius encouraged senators to sign up for a senate committee. Each committee selects a representative to serve on the executive committee.
