Disruptive behavior in children focus of IOP conference

Leading psychiatrists from MUSC will discuss treatment and care options for badly behaved children.
 
In its series, Day of Discovery,” the Institute of Psychiatry will present “Disruptive Behavior, Disruptive Lives,” during a conference Jan. 11. 
 
The conference will provide physicians and mental health clinicians with the latest information to help aid in the care of children and adolescents suffering with brain disorders.
 
Five experts will discuss the evaluation and treatment of adolescents with bipolar disorder, substance abuse issues, borderline personality disorder and conduct disorder.
 
The conference will feature:
  • A overview by Markus Kruesi, M.D., director of MUSC’s Youth Psychiatry Division and Fellowship Program;
  • Marijuana Use and Psychopathology in Adolescents: the Implications for Treatment and Prevention, by Kevin Gray, M.D.;
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Groups of Adolescents with Borderline Personality Features, by McLeod Gwynette, M.D.;
  • Developmental Trajectories of Young Children with Histories of Abuse and Neglect, by Eve Spratt, M.D.;
  • Young, Moody and Acting Out: Is My Patient Bipolar, by Matthew Koval, M.D.; and
  • Conduct disorder: Impact and Neurobiology, by Markus Kruesi, M.D.
