Knowledgeable about today’s health care issues, Neuberger is the author of several books on women, health care ethics, Judaism and care for dying people and is an active public speaker on a variety of topics.

She was the former chief executive of the King’s Fund, an independent health care charity and served as chancellor of the University of Ulster from 1994 to 2000. Neuberger received her education at Newnham College, Cambridge and Leo Baeck College, London. She became a rabbi in 1977 and served for a dozen years at the South London Liberal Synagogue.

Neuberger’s visit was organized by Adrian Reuben, M.D., professor of medicine and director of liver studies, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, who became acquainted with her through his own scientific and professional writings.

“MUSC is fortunate to have a highly accomplished woman of this caliber and member of the House of Lords address our faculty, staff and students,” said Reuben.

In addition to her midday talk, Neuberger will also conduct an evening presentation titled, “Refugees & Asylum Seekers: Is there a Jewish Contribution to the Debate?,” at 7:30 p.m., March 20, Arnold Hall, Jewish Studies Center at the College of Charleston, 96 Wentworth Street.
