Abstracts needed for communications forum

The International Conference on Communication in Healthcare (ICCH) is calling for abstracts for oral presentations, workshops and posters in preparation for its annual meeting Oct. 9 to 12 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston.

ICCH is jointly sponsored by the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare (AACH), European Association on Communication in Healthcare, Northwestern’s Center for Communication and Medicine, the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center and MUSC.

This will be a great opportunity for faculty and students to present their work and/or interact with researcher and educators from around the world in the field of communication.

Abstracts should be submitted between by March 15 using the online abstract submission site available through the AACH Web site at http://www.AACHonline.org.

“We’re trying to promote the value of improved patient-physician-clinician relationships through better communications,” said Shakaib Rehman, M.D., chair of the ICCH planning committee and associate professor of medicine, Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. “This is a wonderful opportunity for students, educators and researchers to submit their educational projects, papers and proposals throughout the course of this meeting.”

The ICCH meeting will be the largest gathering of researchers, educators and administrators from around the globe that are committed to focusing on improving the patient-provider relationship and communication in health care. The meeting is not restricted to physicians, but to other practitioners in health care including nurses, dietitians, social workers, Ph.D. researchers, patients and many more who are involved in the organization.

The multi-disciplinary nature of the conference delegates encourages the integration of perspectives, theory, practice, and innovation.

ICCH meets on rotating basis in the United States and Europe on alternate years. The meeting was previously held in Bruges,  Belgium (University of Bruges) , Chicago (Northwestern University), and Basle, Switzerland (Basle University). The 2007 conference will be hosted by MUSC.
