Broadcast becomes reader-friendly

by Leslie Snyder
Public Relations
A redesigned Broadcast e-mail system was revealed Oct. 12. The Broadcast, a quick information tool for campus employees and students, contains messages from the university and hospital announcing seminars, training opportunities, academic events and meetings, as well as arts and entertainment, employee discounts and community events.  It has become an important link to activities on campus and in the community.

The new format features a home page with News Alert messages at the top, followed by Today’s Broadcast and All Messages. All other categories follow. This format gives readers an option to click to the new messages only, scan all messages, or click on an individual category (i.e., Academic/Faculty, Education/Training/Seminars and Employee Discounts, among others.). Clicking on a category will link to a page of message titles listed in chronological order. The reader can then click on any title to get the message details.

There was a tremendous response by subscribers to the e-mail sent out Sept. 28 requesting ways to improve the Broadcast, and many of those suggestions are being implemented.  For example, a number of subscribers requested that the Broadcast go out in the morning instead of at noon; therefore, on a trial basis, all new messages should be submitted by 4 p.m. each day, and the Broadcast will go out by 7 a.m. the next morning.

The system will be  a work  in progress during the next few weeks as suggestions are incorporated and the appearance and accessibility of the system is refined.  Any comments or feedback should be sent to snyderla@musc.edu.
