MUSC Rumor Mill separates fact from fiction

Bazaar
Rumor: Is it true that anyone can set up a yard sale outside of the library?
Truth: No, this is not true. There are long-standing policies and procedures for use of campus property. The Office of Enrollment Management oversees reservations for classrooms and several special use areas of campus. For information,  contact Sharon Gilliard at 792-5094.

Cafe at Hollings Cancer Center
Rumor: I heard that Hollings Cancer Center is supposed to be getting a cafe. Is this true?
Truth: We are not aware of any plans to place a retail food operation in Hollings Cancer Center.

Hospital cafeteria
Rumor: I was told last year that the cafeteria would be remodeled the first of this year. I see no signs of any work starting to improve such an eye sore.
Truth: MUHA and Sodexho, the dietetic services company, are working on plans to refurbish the serving and seating areas of the cafeteria.

Subway
Rumor: I have heard many staff and visitors complain that Subway restaurant routinely closes before the posted closing time. Are the Subway staff supposed to close early so they can clean up and leave by the posted closing time? Are they MUSC employees?
Truth: Subway is a contractor-operated food service operation. Subway is required to remain open as indicated by the posted hours of operation.

Starbucks and extended cafeteria hours
Rumor: I heard that administration was planning to make food/drinks available for staff and visitors during “off” hours. I heard this would include the cafeteria and Starbucks for the night shift. Will this happen?
Truth: There is no plan for Starbucks to remain open for the night shift. The cafeteria will be open until 3 a.m. in the future. Staff is being recruited at this time. Operational plans and menus are being finalized.

University Communications
Rumor: Will the University Communications office will be relocated to Harborview Office Tower (HOT).
Truth: Communications: OCIO Networking and Telecommunications personnel will relocate to HOT. We are attempting to consolidate as many OCIO personnel as possible on the second floor of HOT in order to fully utilize that space. Field engineers will move from Rutledge Avenue into the 25 Ehrhardt St. building. We are looking into the possibility of having some telephone services/equipment remain in Ehrhardt.
