MUSC Excellence at the University

F&A presents first Spotlight on Excellence

On May 14 and 16 the Senior Leadership Team hosted the Finance and Administration (F&A) Division’s first Spotlight on Excellence session. The purpose of Spotlight on Excellence was to discuss F&A initiatives, including progress on its pillar goals.

Every F&A employee was encouraged to attend the Spotlight on Excellence.  One of the six meetings was attended by 484 of the employees. This equates to an attendance rate of approximately 80 percent. Each attendee received a feedback survey as they entered the meeting. Of those attending, 94 percent of the attendees completed and returned the survey. The feedback surveys will be reviewed by the Senior Leadership Team as a supplement to the annual Employee Satisfaction Survey. The surveys will help leadership understand employee perceptions and opinions.

Lisa Montgomery presents the MUSC Excellence agenda for F&A employees.

The May Spotlight on Excellence agenda included updates on organizational goals, information about the recent employee satisfaction survey, and the status of several employee-focused initiatives.  Lisa Montgomery, F&A vice president, began the meeting with a discussion of the MUSC Excellence Program. She presented progress on current pillar goals and previewed a draft of the 2008 goals. Montgomery also emphasized the importance of Key Words, AIDET, and Rounding.

Patrick Wamsley, chief financial officer, then provided an overview of the 2007 Employee Satisfaction Survey results. He emphasized the importance of taking the survey, how the results will be used, and how the survey ties in to MUSC Excellence.  Specific survey results and action plans will be held in departmental meetings by May 31.

Following Wamsley, Stewart Mixon, chief operations officer, highlighted some employee-focused initiatives at F&A. He discussed CARTA Express, career counseling, the F&A recognition and rewards program, the MUSC Child Care Center, and the compensation program. Each of these initiatives began as a result of previous Employee Satisfaction Surveys and employee feedback.

F&A will hold Spotlight on Excellence sessions every four months. Each spotlight is an opportunity for each  employee to receive organizational updates and offer an opinion on the progress of F&A via a feedback survey.
