Meet...Keith

Name: Keith Bennis.

Department: Transplant Center.

How long at MUSC: 10 years, three months.

Favorite room in your house: The FROG (finished room over garage) or, as we call it, The Man Room. It’s got the old sofa/loveseat, old TV, the computer, the Xbox, and of course—the mini-fridge.

First job: I worked concessions at a minor league ballpark in Prince William County, Va.

Coke or Pepsi: Coke.

Person you admire the most: My father, Richard. I’m always trying to be more like he was.

Ingredient you must have in your refrigerator: Hot sauce—In the fridge, in the cupboards, and even in my desk at work!

I'm a stickler about...: If you get in your car and there’s a flyer/note/parking ticket on your window—take it off before you go driving around town! Don’t pretend it’s not there or wait for it to blow off (it won’t).

If you could trade places with someone for a day, who would you be: One of those Sunday morning ESPN fishing show guys. They get paid to travel around the country (and world for that matter) and fish. How do you get signed on for that gig, and where did I miss that ad in the classifieds?

Most rewarding thing about your job: Seeing the difference transplants makes in the lives of our patients and their families.

Best thing about working at MUSC: Positive community recognition—I know it’s a huge organization, but it still gives you “something in common” with strangers. People say, “Oh, you work at MUSC? My sister-in-law works in Rutledge Tower...” or, “My mother sees Dr. so-and-so...” Then you get the “attaboys” for the positive impact our institution may have had on their lives!
