Meet...Gabrielle

Name: Gabrielle Ferguson Cannick.

College: Dental Medicine/College of Graduate Studies (DMD/PhD student, Class of 2009).

Family: Husband, Dr. Leander Cannick, and expecting first child in October.

Three words that best describe you: Faithful, sincere, and committed.

Fondest childhood memory: Summer vacations with my parents and siblings.

First job: Front desk receptionist in my father’s dental office (Dr. Larry J. Ferguson).

Title of a book that’s currently on your nightstand: Praying for Your Unborn Child by Francis and Judith Macnutt.

What led you to want to become a dentist: Observing my father’s dental practice, and shadowing other dentists in college.

First thing you notice about people: Their smile.

Dream vacation: Anywhere tropical.

Three guests at a fantasy dinner: Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr., and Mother Teresa.

Whom do you admire most: My parents.

What did you want to be when you were young: A pediatrician.

Something you have tried once and will never do again: Horseback riding in the ocean.

Accomplishment of which you are most proud: Successfully defending my Ph.D. in August 2006.

Words of advice for MUSC students: School is not your life; treasure your time with family and friends.
